All good things come to an end…
After nine years as chairman of FC VVC, it’s time to pass the gavel to a new chairman. At the next general members’ meeting in November, I will officially step down as chairman.
You would think that when someone reaches retirement, they can dedicate more time to a position as a board member. However, practice shows otherwise. Because we regularly stay at our place in Italy, I strongly feel that I’m not giving the association enough attention and effort. I’ve found that as chairman, you need to be present at the club regularly, and spending more than a month at a time in Italy doesn’t contribute to that. At least, not to my liking.
I’m also convinced that this is a good time to pass the baton. I believe the association has entered a next, more mature phase. The board has expanded and is working hard, the atmosphere within the club is very positive, many volunteers have taken on all sorts of tasks, from trainer to bar coordinator, from clothing coordinator to the maintenance men! Even the canteen is now undergoing the long-cherished renovation. A lot happens within our association every day. And yes, there is always a need for more volunteers so that the work is less burdensome for others.
Am I completely gone? No, of course not. I will continue to follow and visit FC VVC, and you might see me helping out at the bar or with a special project.
For now, I want to thank everyone I have met at the club as a loyal volunteer over the past nine years. Without you, an association is nothing! Thanks to you, almost 1,000 members have their weekly football fun… Thank you for that!
